How To Choose A Blender

What Makes A Good Blender

There are a wide range of choices for blenders out there. You can spend as little as $20 or as much as $600 and beyond. The blender for you really depends on your budget and what you are going to use your blender for. Almost any blender can chop up fruit and vegetables, but it depends how efficiently it does, how much of the produce doesnt get chopped, and also how easy it is to clean afterwards.

How regularly you use your blender will make a difference too. Generally the more expensive blenders are built to last for longer periods of time and can be used on a very regular basis with few problems. The cheaper blenders and cheaper for a reason and usually sacrifices have to be made. So if you are only blending once in a while you may be able to get away with a very cheap blender, but if you are using your blender multiple times a day its probably wise to invest in a more heavy duty blender that will be able to take everything you can throw at it or in it.

Do I Need A Heavy Duty Blender?

Can I Make Smoothies In A Cheap Blender

You may have notice that many juice bars and smoothie stands will have a heavy duty Vitamix or Blendtec blenders. And you may be wondering if you need one of those for home. Well it really depends how much money you are prepared to spend to blend your food and also how much you use your blender.

The heavy duty blenders are expensive. Typically you arent going to get much change out of $400 even for an entry level Vitamix or Blendtec blender. But these blenders are designed for a lot of heavy usage. A typical juice bar is going to have their blender running all day every day. So you really only need such a heavy duty blender at home if you are making a lot of healthy smoothies and maybe using your blender pretty much every day.

Smoothies are hard on blenders, especially if you are using a lot of ice or frozen fruit. Even if your cheap or mid price blender can cope, it is likely to shorten its life considerably. But that may not be too much of an issue if the blender only costs you $20 or so. If you can get 6 months or a year out of it, you may find that is still cheaper than spending $400 or $500 on a Blendtec or Vitamix.

But if you would rather but one blender that can cope with everything and will last you for years and is trouble free then it may well be worth the investment. Remember that the cheap blenders often come with short warranties. Whereas the heavy duty blenders often come with extremely long warranties. Vitamix blenders for example often come with 7 year warranties, and even that can be extended. So although the heavy duty blenders can seem expensive, they do come with the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong the manufacturere will repair or replace your blender.
